Our Thoughts

f you’re into vintage vibes, rich tone, and beautifully made small-bodied acoustics, the Atkin Essential 0 14 Aged Finish is going to be right up your alley. This is one of those guitars that doesn’t just sound great—it feels right the second you pick it up.

First Impressions

Let’s start with the looks: the aged finish is gorgeous. Atkin does relicing better than just about anyone—it’s tasteful, not over-the-top. The nitro finish has that soft glow and just the right amount of checking to make it look like a well-loved guitar from decades past. Simple tortoiseshell binding, no bling—just clean, classic design.

Feel & Playability

This is a 0-size guitar, so it's smaller and super comfy to hold—perfect for couch playing, songwriting, or travel. But don’t let the size fool you—it doesn’t sound small. The short scale (24 7/8") and soft V neck profile make it really easy on the hands. Whether you're strumming or fingerpicking, it’s smooth and responsive all the way up the neck.

The 1 3/4" nut gives you just enough room for fingerstyle, but it's not so wide that it feels chunky. Everything about it feels dialed in for players who want something intimate and musical.

Sound

This thing sings. The torrefied Sitka spruce top and mahogany back/sides give it a warm, dry, vintage-y tone with a nice punch in the mids. It's super responsive—you don’t have to dig in hard to get it going, but it handles a bit of aggression well too. Perfect for folk, blues, fingerstyle, or even light flatpicking.

It doesn’t have the low-end thump of a dreadnought (of course), but the balance and clarity are top-notch. It’s the kind of guitar that makes you want to slow down and really listen to each note.

Bottom Line

The Atkin Essential 0 14 Aged Finish is a no-nonsense, tone-first kind of guitar. It’s got that worn-in, broken-in vibe straight out of the case (which, by the way, is a really nice hardshell). Whether you’re recording, gigging, or just noodling at home, this guitar delivers in a big way.

If you’re after a smaller-bodied acoustic with serious mojo and exceptional craftsmanship, this one’s hard to beat. Vintage soul, modern feel—what more could you ask for?
