Customer reviews
A great upgrade
I have played electric guitars for about 20 years and in 2019 I thought it was time to try a mandolin. I bought a Pilgrim A30 from a local shop for about £240 (an A-style with f holes, gig bag, light strings for beginners). A nice instrument to learn on but it has several irritating issues including a high plastic nut making it hard to play, plus a thin and tinny sound. So, I decided to upgrade and chose an F-style with oval sound hole and set my budget limit at £1000. My online research showed Eastman was a good make, the MD314 ticked all the boxes, Project Music had them in stock and had very good customer service reviews. The mandolin was ordered online as we live in East Anglia. It was delivered quickly and safely, and Project Music provided excellent customer care. The mandolin looks great with its satin finish. It feels well balanced and comfortable. It has a lovely low action (and bone nut) and is a lot easier to play than the Pilgrim. It came with medium strings which allow a harder attack. The sound is beautiful - loud and mellow. The fingerboard radius is almost flat at 12” but it has a better radius than the Pilgrim which looks dead flat. The tuners feel fine and the tuning of the instrument has not slipped. The mandolin came with a black padded gig bag. I have put a strap and arm rest on the instrument. I am very pleased I made this purchase and would highly recommend this mandolin (and buying from this shop).
